Fare evasion on buses is rampant in New York City — including Staten Island — as the MTA continues efforts to halt the problem, which has resulted in millions of dollars in lost revenue, according to a new report from amNY.
As part of an investigation into fare evasion on city buses, amNY spoke with a bus operator on Staten Island who said that a majority of passengers on his bus don’t pay.
“It’s crazy how bad Staten Island is with the fare beaters on buses,” the bus driver, who asked to remain anonymous, told the outlet. “It’s a domino effect. When one doesn’t pay, the person behind them doesn’t, either.”…
