Former FDNY chief who pleaded guilty to corruption charge sentenced to 3 years

A former FDNY chief who pleaded guilty to a bribery scheme was sentenced to three years in prison on Wednesday.

Anthony Saccavino used to lead the Bureau of Fire Prevention, which oversees fire safety systems in residential and commercial buildings across the city. A federal grand jury indicted him and another former chief, Brian Cordasco, on corruption charges in September.

The indictment accused the pair of abusing their roles by taking a combined $190,000 in bribes to fast-track inspections for people who were willing to pay, instead of conducting them on a first-come, first-served basis. Prosecutors said they sped up reviews for about 30 projects, including apartment buildings, restaurants and hotels.
