Are hummingbirds migrating back to Staten Island? Here’s what a tracker says

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Flowers are in bloom, foxes are flitting across parks, and hummingbirds are official back in town for the spring migration.

Hummingbird Central works in conjunction with the Chaparrel Nature Preserve and runs an annual migration map that shows the seasonal traveling of 12 different species of hummingbirds.

“Many hummingbirds spend the winter in Central America or Mexico, and migrate north to their breeding grounds in the southern United States as early as February, and to areas further north later in the spring,” the Hummingbird Central website explained…
