STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Northwell Staten Island University Hospital is celebrating the first baby born in its new Gruppuso Family Women and Newborn Center, which integrates maternity, labor and delivery, and the NICU into one location at the Ocean Breeze site.
On Monday at 7:50 a.m., Staten Islander Kristen Cerrati welcomed her daughter, Elliana Elizabeth, in the new center — marking the first baby born in the reimagined labor and delivery facility.
Weighing 6 pounds 6 ounces, and measuring 19.3 inches long, Elliana was delivered by Dr. Christopher LaPorta, an OB-GYN with Northwell Health Physician Partners.
“Our experience has been great. The new building is beautiful. It’s probably every pregnant woman’s dream to have a baby in a building that big, and then have your own room and your own space and not have to share that with anybody else. It’s definitely a more intimate experience,” said Cerrati…
