Community rallies around Staten Island family of 4 after fire damages home

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The Staten Island community is rallying around a family displaced in the wake of a residential fire in their attached home in Westerleigh.

The blaze, which fire officials say broke out at around 8:16 p.m. on May 16 in unit 1 of 495 Willow Road East in the Horizon Village Condominium, originated in the basement and was declared under control at 8:54 p.m.

At the time of the fire, the Gambidilla family was not home.
