Happy 56th Birthday To Brooklyn Rap Legend Chubb Rock!

On this day in 1968, Brooklyn native Richard Simpson—better known to the Hip-Hop world as Chubb Rock—was born. The Ivy League dropout turned golden-era lyricist made a name for himself in the late ’80s with a style that blended intellect, charisma, and lyrical precision.

Introduced to the game by his cousin, the legendary “Hitman” Howie Tee—who was known for producing timeless joints for Whistle, Color Me Badd, and Special Ed—Chubb Rock dropped his debut album And the Winner Is… in 1989. That project gave us early gems like “Caught Up” and “Ya Bad Chubbs.” But it was his 1991 classic “Treat ’Em Right” that solidified his place in Hip-Hop history, making waves on the charts and even landing on the Freddy’s Dead: The Final Nightmare soundtrack.
