Andrew Cuomo’s once seemingly safe lead over Zohran Mamdani in the polls has tightened up to single digits, with less than four weeks to go until the Democratic primary takes place on June 24th. When ranked-choice voting models are taken into account, Cuomo needs several rounds before he finally clears 50% to claim the nomination. If Mamdani, virtually unknown to all but a handful of his die-hard supporters at the start of the year, were to do the unthinkable and upset Cuomo, that might open a clear path to victory in deep-blue New York City the general election in November.
Former Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino, who hosts the Rob Astorino Show on WOR Saturdays at 4pm, says Mamdani’s surge should be setting off alarm bells all over the city. Speaking on 710 WOR’s Mendte in the Morning program, Astorino explained why Mamdani’s political gain will cost the Big Apple if he wins in November.
“This guy was always on my radar because he fits the times right now for the left,” Astorino told host Larry Mendte. “I’m not talking Democrat, I’m talking left, and the leftists in our city, unfortunately, there are way too many… This guy is frightening if he actually gets in because if he gets in, there’s no rails, there’s no Republican City Council, there’s no moderate normal City Council. There is a City Council stuffed with imbeciles and ignoramuses like this guy, and so they will go along with a lot of what he wants, like government-run, New York City-run supermarkets. Because they do everything else so well, why not open up a food store- what could go wrong? Free buses, free childcare, free everything, and of course, an enormous increase in taxes.”…
