Man sentenced for mailing death threats against judges to governor

ALBANY — A state prison inmate from New York City will serve an additional five years in prison for sending a letter in which he threatened to kill two judges who had presided over a criminal case against him.

Christopher McCarty, 33, was sentenced Tuesday in U.S. District Court in Albany after pleading guilty in February.

He admitted that on May 31, 2023, he sent a letter to Gov. Kathy Hochul in which he vowed to kill two state Supreme Court justices who oversaw legal proceedings stemming from a 2021 robbery in the Bronx. He was incarcerated after his Nov. 17, 2021, robbery conviction and was serving a sentence of 2 to 4 years…
