STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — An enhanced U.S. Coast Guard presence aboard the Staten Island Ferry startled several commuters on Thursday morning, some of whom reported a group of armed officers aided by a K-9 unit making “a sweep” of the 8:15 a.m. boat.
“It was five or six Coast Guard members, with a dog as well,” noted one Stapleton commuter who takes the ferry to work daily. “I wondered if the dogs were sniffing for bombs.”
