Disability advocates rally to slam ‘disgraceful’ proposed cuts to Medicaid

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Hundreds gathered outside the College of Staten Island library on Wednesday to rally against plans to cut nearly $800 billion in federal funding for Medicaid, citing the devastating impacts the proposed cuts could have on the intellectually and developmentally disabled community.

The rally, which was attended by self-advocates, family members and various community organizations that support those living with disabilities, was hosted by the Staten Island Opportunities Alliance, Staten Island Developmental Disabilities Council, Save Our Services and Disability Awareness in Action.
