Rite Aid to close last Staten Island location next week: What you need to know

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Rite Aid, the embattled pharmacy chain that has shuttered hundreds of stores in the past two years, will close its last remaining Staten Island location next week.

The store, located at 43-68 Amboy Rd. in Eltingville, was one of 118 locations named in a legal notice of store closures, filed on June 20 with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court for the District of New Jersey. The address also appears on a pharmacy closure and transfer list posted on the company’s website. According to signage taped to the store’s door, the final day of business will be July 22.

Shelves have been bare at the Eltingville store since May when the company filed for a second round of Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection and indicated that all Rite Aid stores would either close or soon be operated by a new owner.

As of June 5, rewards points were no longer being issued at the location, and gift cards, returns and exchanges ceased to be accepted…
