STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — After being shuttered by the New York City Department of Health last month for “operating without a permit,” the Starbucks location at Empire Outlets in St. George has reopened for business, now displaying an “A” inspection grade.
According to the NYC Health website, which offers a detailed and regularly updated list of restaurant health grades, four sanitary violations were issued at the establishment on July 9, the most egregious being the lack of a food protection certificate.
“The Health Code requires food service establishments to have a supervisor of food operations with a Food Protection Certificate on duty during all hours of operation to supervise food preparation and processing,” NYC’s My City website explained. “The NYC Health Academy trains individuals in food protection practices to ensure the safety of the food served in New York City’s food establishments.”…
