Health officials in New York City are investigating a cluster of 22 Legionnaires’ disease cases in Central Harlem, including one reported death.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, Legionnaires’ disease is a form of pneumonia that is treatable with antibiotics. It is not spread from person to person but is contracted by inhaling mist contaminated with Legionella bacteria. Common symptoms include cough, fever, headaches, shortness of breath, and nausea.
