Popular hamburger chain opening new Staten Island location that will be ready for tasting this fall

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — For ShackBurger and mushroom burger fans, the East Shore makes ‘shroom for one more. Shake Shack is set to open its third Staten Island location this fall at 2530 Hylan Blvd. in New Dorp, formerly home to Five Below and other retailers.

A contractor working on-site said construction is expected to wrap up by Sept. 30, keeping the fall opening on track.

The burger chain is joining an increasingly food-focused Hylan Commons retail hub that has become home to several notable eateries. The New Dorp shopping complex already features an Aldi supermarket, the borough’s first Starbucks, Vietnamese restaurant Pho Today which opened earlier this summer, and a forthcoming revolving sushi bar and bubble tea concept called Makoto. Wonder restaurants announced its first day of business as Aug. 11.

Borough journey

Shake Shack first arrived on Staten Island in October 2018 with the opening of its Mall location in New Springville at 2655 Richmond Ave. The 3,000-square-foot restaurant, situated in a free-standing building outside the Mall’s main entrance, was part of a 242,000-square-foot renovation project. When it opened, over a hundred eager customers lined up to be among the first to taste the chain’s offerings.

The island’s second Shake Shack opened on Dec. 19 at Empire Outlets in St. George. The 2,919-square-foot location features an outdoor patio and a custom mural by Brooklyn-based artist Jaima. Before its official opening, the St. George location hosted a “friends and family” event where guests sampled items and provided feedback on service, menu knowledge, wait times and cleanliness…
