Staten Island barber shop, which goes far beyond cuts in service to the community, opens new ‘legacy’ location

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — It’s always good news when a business embraces a positive social and community impact.

Against Da Grain Project Inc., a nonprofit organization, and its affiliated barbershop, Against Da Grain — headed by community leader Sean White — officially opened its doors to a new Staten Island location as of July 12, marking a bold new chapter in White’s mission to serve, empower and uplift the community.

The new shop and headquarters for the affiliated nonprofit’s youth-centric mission is located at 56 Beach St. in Stapleton.

White says the recent move wasn’t just about changing addresses — but rather also about undergoing a strategic expansion into a more accessible and professionally designed space.

The goal? “To continue delivering trusted grooming services while deepening impact through holistic community outreach,” White, the founder, and Yasmin Miller, the principal officer of the business, said collectively.
