STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — The New York City Health Department has confirmed the first known human case of West Nile virus on Staten Island this year. The case was detected through routine blood donation screening, according to statement from the agency.
City health officials also reported two confirmed human cases in Queens–one involving West Nile fever and another involving West Nile neuroinvasive disease, which has led to a hospitalization for encephalitis, the report states.
Another case in Brooklyn was detected through the same routine blood donation screening, the release states. It also states that two more individuals, both from Brooklyn with possible West Nile disease are under investigation…
