Toll, fare hikes to take effect in NYC Jan. 4: What you need to know

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — With the new year comes new tolls at crossings around New York City, including the bridges on Staten Island.

Beginning Jan. 4, the Metropolitan Transportation Authority will increase tolls at its crossings by 7.5%. Tolls on bridges and tunnels managed by the MTA — like the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge, Hugh L. Carey Tunnel and Robert F. Kennedy Bridge — will rise from $6.94 to $7.46.

The MTA has also said that resident discount programs, like the Staten Island Resident Program, would still apply to these new tolls…
