‘Massive’ DSNY operation continues on Staten Island a week after storm

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — A week after a monster storm encrusted Staten Island in ice and snow, removal is continuing to hassle residents with uncleared stretches of sidewalk.

An Advance/SILive.com employee spotted a clip of sidewalk on Hylan Boulevard near Oak Avenue still icily encased in the remnants of the snow.

Beyond the mess, a S78 and S57 bus stop has a precariously cleared path, about a shovel-width wide. A mass of dirty snow and ice beyond knee-high surrounds the stop.

The employee additionally spotted heavy-duty equipment scooping bucketloads of crusty ice and thick snow away from the street near Hylan Boulevard and Chesterton Avenue, Oakwood.

The storm dumped over a foot of snow on the borough on Jan. 25, and with temperatures struggling to climb above freezing, folks have struggled to find parking spots and clear walkways…
