Staten Island University Hospital to honor Sandra Dowling’s 37-year legacy

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — After 37 years as a radiologic technologist at Staten Island University Hospital, Sandra “Sandy” Dowling is being remembered as a mentor, caregiver and friend.

A lifelong Staten Islander whose warmth and compassion touched generations of patients and colleagues, Sandy died on Dec. 30, 2025. She was 71.

Born May 22, 1954, in New Brighton to Minnie Santore and Anthony Imperato, Sandy was raised on the North Shore in a family descended from Italian immigrants. Her family has lived on Staten Island for more than 120 years. Over the years, she called Westerleigh, West Brighton and Castleton Corners home, remaining deeply devoted to the borough throughout her life…
