Dr. James A. Kaser, a professor and archivist at the College of Staten Island, has released a new book called Staten Island’s Elliottville: Abolitionist Enclave, Gilded Age Retreat, Ferry Suburb. Published by SUNY Press, it tells the story of Elliottville, a 19th-century Staten Island community known for its strong ties to the abolition, women’s rights, and social reform movements. The book draws on over 10 years of archival research and highlights how this small neighborhood influenced national change. It’s available in hardcover, paperback, and digital formats.
