2 New York men charged in gold bar scam investigations in Fairfield

FAIRFIELD, Conn. (WTNH) — Two New York City men were arrested in two separate investigations into fraud scams which allegedly targeted elderly Fairfield residents and involved buying gold bars.

According to the Fairfield Police Department, 40-year-old Le Chen of Flushing was arrested and charged with first-degree conspiracy to commit larceny and first-degree conspiracy to commit telephone fraud.

The charges stem from an incident in June 2025 in which a Fairfield resident was allegedly directed to withdraw money to purchase gold, which was later collected by a courier. The victim in this case lost around $166,000, police said…
