Fire on commercial Staten Island block prompts large FDNY response, emergency alert for area residents

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y.— A fire on a commercial block in Rosebank drew a large FDNY response to the area on Thursday night, while prompting a notification by the city’s Emergency Management System.

The two-alarm blaze was reported at about 8 p.m. on the 1200 block of Bay Street near Scarboro Avenue in a three-story, mixed commercial and residential building.

Several streets in the surrounding neighborhood were still blocked off as of 9 p.m., as emergency officials warned motorists to avoid the area.
