STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — On April 23, 2025, members of Rescue Company Five in Concord responded to a fire on Prospect Avenue in New Brighton.

At the scene, Firefighter Donald Campbell entered the structure under extremely hazardous conditions, operating in heavy smoke, zero visibility and a cluttered, dangerous environment. He was going in after Engine 155 transmitted a Mayday reporting that a firefighter was missing, low on air and had crawled deeper into the building.

Campbell continued his search deeper into the structure and located the downed firefighter. He immediately began efforts to remove the member from danger, navigating through debris while maintaining control and protecting the member from further harm…
