NYC says community meeting in works after Staten Islanders make new push against homeless shelter

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — New York City plans to hold a community meeting about a controversial homeless shelter planned for Richmond Valley, the Advance/SILive.com learned Thursday.

A spokesperson for the Department of Social Services, which oversees city homeless shelters, said a community meeting is in the works as required by law for non-emergency shelters, but did not provide a specific date.

The announced plan followed a press conference held by Borough President Vito Fossella during which he presented his latest arguments against the planned shelter at the corner of Richmond Valley and Arthur Kill roads…
