Roommate saga takes new turn as Staten Island murder case heads back to trial

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Two years after a Staten Island jury failed to reach a unanimous verdict in the murder case of Ayomide Shodiya, the 27-year-old defendant is now headed back to trial.

Shodiya, who has a history of bizarre courtroom appearances, was charged with second-degree murder in connection with the 2020 stabbing death of his 23-year-old roommate in Port Richmond.

The slaying, described by prosecutors as a “horror film,” centered around four roommates inside a duplex apartment on Richmond Terrace at the height of the COVID-19 pandemic…
