Staten Island research center gives free memory screenings as promising Alzheimer’s treatments emerge

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Free Alzheimer’s disease screenings are being offered once again by a Graniteville research center, and thanks to new advances in treatment, early diagnosis is more critical than ever, doctors say.

Diagnostic tests now include a new FDA-approved blood test, and treatments include two FDA-approved Alzheimer’s medications.

These advances make the screenings an even more valuable tool in identifying and treating the disease in its early stages, said Dr. Adam Smith, of the Advanced Memory Institute of Richmond Behavioral Associates, which is offering the screenings on May 4 through May 6 in Graniteville…
