STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — A prominent stretch of Tompkins Avenue has officially been transformed into a permanent tribute to Giuseppe Garibaldi and Antonio Meucci. It’s a way to honor the historic legacy of the two Italian figures who lived at 420 Tompkins Ave., now the Garibaldi-Meucci Museum.
The names Giuseppe Garibaldi Way and Antonio Meucci Way celebrate the profound impact the two leaders had on history, innovation, and Italian-American heritage — which is now permanently woven into the daily navigation of the community of Rosebank.
Arrochar resident Fran Curcio initiated the project by contacting City Councilwoman Kamillah Hanks and taking on the task of writing the proposal as a way to bring the project to fruition.
