Staten Island man arrested after wrong-way crash on Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — A 41-year-old man fled after a wrong-way crash on the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge that injured two people, authorities allege.

Deqiang Yu of Barry Court in Oakwood Beach was arrested for the crash that occurred when he was driving the wrong way on the span on April 26 at about 2 a.m., according to the criminal complaint based on an investigation by the MTA Police.

The criminal complaint and a law-enforcement source allege that Yu was driving a gray 2022 Toyota Sienna at a high rate of speed heading toward Staten Island in a Brooklyn-bound lane. A vehicle had to maneuver out of the way to avoid being hit. The Toyota then crashed head on into a gray 2017 Dodge Durango that was heading in the correct direction toward Brooklyn…
