A bicyclist was killed early Monday in Stockton after being hit by a car, the California Highway Patrol said.

A bike rider and a 32-year-old woman driving a 2012 Ford Edge were both headed south on El Dorado Street north of Arch Airport Road in the second lane.

The woman was driving 55 mph as she approached the bicyclist, the CHP said.

According to the CHP, the weather conditions were rainy and dark with little to no street lighting.

When the driver suddenly spotted the bicyclist in front of her, she attempted to swerve but was not able to avoid hitting the bicycle.

Officials didn’t give the age of the victim but said he was ejected and came to a rest in the second lane of southbound El Dorado Street.

It is unknown whether alcohol or drugs contributing to the collision, the CHP said.

Anyone with information on the collision is asked to contact the California Highway Patrol Stockton Office at (209) 938-4800.
