Paralympian and Stockton native Roderick Townsend was honored by the Stockton City Council.
Townsend was presented with a Key to the City by Vice Mayor Kimberly Warmsley, who presided over Tuesday’s meeting in Mayor Kevin Lincoln’s absence.
Townsend, 32, won his third straight gold medal in the men’s high jump T47 event at the Paris Paralympic Games on Sept. 1. The current world-record holder in the event added to his medal collection by clearing a season-best 6 feet, 11 ½ inches.
An athlete is classified under the T45-47 category when they have an upper limb or limbs affected by deficiency, impaired muscle power or impaired passive range of movement, according to the International Paralympic Committee.
Previously, Townsend won gold in the same event at Rio de Janeiro in 2016 and at Tokyo in 2020. He also has a gold medal from Rio de Janeiro and a silver medal from Tokyo in the long jump.
The Paralympian has achieved all of his success without full range of motion in his dominant right arm.
