Man detained after toddler survives fentanyl poisoning in Northern California

(FOX40.COM) — A man was arrested after a 2-year-old boy was hospitalized following a suspected fentanyl poisoning in Grass Valley, according to the Nevada County Sheriff’s Office.

The agency said deputies responded on Tuesday evening to a residence after a call about a toddler ingesting fentanyl at a residence near Rough and Ready Highway and Kootenai Lane, west of Grass Valley.

The child was unresponsive and not breathing, and was provided Narcan several times by medics, the sheriff’s office said.

The child was later taken to a hospital for more care.

The sheriff’s office said deputies found at the residence narcotics and drug paraphernalia and determined who was the person responsible for the child’s well-being.

That person was arrested on charges of child endangerment and possession of drug paraphernalia.

A search of the residence also allegedly turned up suspected fentanyl and methamphetamine, pipes, syringes, spent and unspent Narcan, and other items, the sheriff’s office said.
