Active Period Continue Across the West Coast
12/15/24 11:42am
Good late morning everyone. Our system which brought snow, freezing rain, and ice to parts of Iowa and the Midwest, is slowly sliding to the east as our weekend comes to a close. Onset snows are likely across parts of interior sections of Pennsylvania and New York before changing to rain, but this is an all-rain event for the coast.
This is the start of an active period that’ll not only include the chance of some strong thunderstorms for Florida and the Southeast, but a new wave of strong low pressure systems for the West Coast. Our next strong storm system is actually arriving throughout the next 24hrs across parts of California, Oregon, and Washington.
Expect a new risk of gale force winds along the coast, with winds gusting to 50+mph along coastal sections of northern California and lower Oregon. Heavy rains will push inland, then hit the cold air locked in the Cascades for some very heavy snows. Look for snow accumulations in the Oregon Cascades to reach the 20″+ mark in spots.
