(FOX40.COM) — The California Highway Patrol is investigating the circumstances behind an 11-year-old child who led police on a vehicle pursuit and flipped the car over.
Around 10:42 a.m., CHP received multiple reports of a reckless driver on Highway 99 (SR-99) just north of State Route 149. Callers advised CHP dispatch the driver of a silver minivan was traveling at varying speeds and weaving within all lanes.

Officers said they attempted to pull over the vehicle near southbound SR-149, but the driver accelerated and failed to yield as it transitioned to southbound SR-70. CHP said adverse weather conditions and public safety concerns prompted officers to abort the chase after about 30 seconds.
At 11:40 a.m., CHP Dispatch was contacted by the Chico Police Department and notified that the driver of the vehicle was an 11-year-old minor, as reported by the minor’s guardian. Shortly after, additional calls were received about the minor being back on the road, traveling southbound again on SR-149, towards Oroville.
