It’s a good idea to throw on warm layers, grab your umbrella and give yourself extra time to get where you’re going as you get ready to head out the door Monday. A cool and wet system off the coast will drive rain and snow showers, breezy south winds and cooler temperatures across northern California to start your work week. Winter Weather Advisories are in effect for the Sierra, southern Cascades and Shasta County Mountains through 4am Tuesday, and through 10pm Monday night in Trinity County. Skies have been cloudy overnight, and rain and snow has become widespread across our region to start your Monday. The most widespread showers are expected through mid-morning and then most showers will become limited to areas from Shasta County to the north, and in our higher elevations through your Monday. Scattered shower chances will then ramp back up from this afternoon through this evening in areas of the valley from Tehama County to the south. Shower chances then fizzle out tonight into early Tuesday. Temperatures have mostly dipped into the 40’s in the valley, 30’s to mid 40’s in the foothills, and 30’s in our mountain zones Monday morning. Winds will be out of the south to 15mph, and gusts up to 25mph will be possible today. High temperatures are projected to climb into the upper 40’s to lower 50’s in the valley, 30’s to mid 40’s in the foothills, and 30’s to low 40’s in our mountain zones Monday afternoon.
