Treatment continues for black bear cub rescued in Northern California

(FOX40.COM) — The condition of a black bear cub that was rescued in Northern California on Dec. 9 has become clear with recent test results, according to Gold Country Wildlife Rescue (GCWR).

Cub 24-3926 was brought to the wildlife rescue in Auburn weighing just 20 pounds and showing signs of major skin infections.

On Monday, GCWR shared that Cub 24-3926 has gotten up to 35 pounds and is steadily growing in strength.

Cultures taken from the cub’s skin found that he is suffering from yeast and ringworm infections along with bilateral deep ear infections.

“We are committed to giving this cub every opportunity to recover and thrive,” said Dana Fasolette, Director of Animal Care. “His journey highlights the value of collaborative care in wildlife rehabilitation.”

Going forward, GCWR plans to use systemic, topical and environmental antifungal protocols to address the skin and ear infections.

A continued nutrition plan and accompanying supplements aim to help growth, healing, inflammation reduction, joint health and more.
