Storm Tracker Forecast: Sunshine & breezy north winds return Monday

It’s a good idea to throw on a warm extra layer over lighter layers and grab your sunglasses as you get ready to head out the door Monday. High pressure off the coast is building into northern California, and a cool and wet system is tracking east over the top of that ridge through Oregon. That cool and wet system is projected to slide southeast into Nevada from Monday into Tuesday, and cause what’s known as an “Inside Slider” event to occur. These generally leave northern California with gusty north winds and the potential for showers across the Sierra as high pressure off the coast blocks most moisture and low pressure to our east drives gusty northeast winds. A Wind Advisory has been issued for the Northern Sierra and foothills from 10pm Monday through 7am Wednesday due to the potential for wind gusts strong enough to down trees. This could cause power outages and travel impacts. We’ve had cloudy skies and scattered very light showers in the overnight hours, but will be left with partly cloudy and dry conditions as you head out the door Monday morning. We’ll end up sunny to mostly sunny in the valley and foothills, but will stay partly cloudy in our higher elevations today. Temperatures are starting out in the mid 40’s in the valley, 30’s to mid 40’s in the foothills, and lower 30’s to lower 40’s in our mountain zones this morning. Winds are light to start the day, but will be out of the north to 15mph with the potential for gusts up to 25mph this afternoon. high temperatures are projected to climb into the low to mid 60’s in the valley, 50’s to around 60 degrees in the foothills, and 40’s to mid 50’s in our mountain zones Monday afternoon. Winds will become stronger tonight, and gusts up to 35mph will be possible late tonight.
