Southwest Airlines is overhauling its fare structure starting May 28, 2025, with significant changes impacting travelers nationwide. The airline will introduce a new “Basic Fares” category, replacing its current lowest-tier “Wanna Get Away” pricing, according to The Points Guy.
Under the new structure, Basic Fares will be nonrefundable and non-changeable, except under Southwest’s 24-hour cancellation policy. Passengers who cancel at least 10 minutes before departure may receive non-transferable flight credits that expire after six months.
Additionally, Basic Fares will not permit same-day changes or standby options. Rapid Rewards members will only earn two points per dollar spent on these fares, down from the previous six.…
