Driver dies after crash with Amtrak passenger train in Northern California

(FOX40.COM) — One person is dead and another injured after a collision between a vehicle and an Amtrak passenger train Monday afternoon. • Video Above: What happens when you call 911?

Around 1:26 p.m., the California Highway Patrol responded to a call about a crash between a train and an SUV on State Route 132, just west of Santa Fe Avenue. When emergency crews arrived at the scene, they said they found a stopped Amtrak passenger train and a fully engulfed Chevy SUV.

The driver of the SUV was pronounced dead at the scene, according to CHP. One passenger on the train was transported to a local area hospital with minor injuries.

CHP said the Chevy SUV was traveling eastbound on SR-132, toward a railroad crossing while the crossing arms, flashing red lights, and audible indicator were activated. The driver reportedly entered the westbound traffic lane and proceeded around the crossing arms, directly into the path of the southbound train…
