At the top of this week’s report is a flurry of fire incidents, including at least two sparked by the use of lawnmowers in dry grass, which drew comments from fire districts urging more caution.
On Sunday afternoon, the Calaveras Consolidated Fire Protection District, along with the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection’s Tuolumne-Calaveras Unit (Cal Fire TCU), responded to a vegetation fire with structures threatened in the 5300 block of Treosti Place in the Rancho Calaveras area of Valley Springs.
According to CalCo Chief Rich Dickinson, it was contained to about 1.25 acres. He added that the cause was determined to have been sparked by a riding mower. On June 20, a blaze in Wallace was extinguished as a 50-foot by 50-foot spot fire just minutes after firefighters arrived at the scene in the 9600 block of Whalen Road near Southworth Road, north of Highway 12, which was also determined to be from a lawn mower…
