Stockton City Council replaces Colangelo as interim city manager; mayor says he wasn’t fired

The Stockton City Council will replace Steve Colangelo as interim city manager in August, but Mayor Christina Fugazi said he has not been dismissed or relieved of his duties.

The council on Tuesday voted unanimously to reappoint Deputy City Manager Will Crew as acting city manager, effective Aug. 9. That’s the same day Colangelo’s six-month contract to serve as interim city manager expires.

The council also directed that “a new contract for interim city manager” be placed on the next available regularly scheduled council meeting agenda, according to a report read out of closed session by Assistant City Attorney Taryn Jones…
