Invasive mosquito species causing concerns in Sacramento and San Joaquin Counties

SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY, Calif. — An invasive mosquito with the potential to transmit diseases is causing concern in Sacramento and San Joaquin counties. But the San Joaquin County Mosquito and Vector Control District says people in affected communities have the power to decrease the risk significantly.

After first appearing in 2019 in Stockton, the Aedes aegypti mosquito is now present in every single city in San Joaquin County.

“This particular mosquito is a relentless biter. It bites low on your legs, reproduces quickly, and the fact that it lays its eggs on the sides of containers, and we get multiple generations egg laying.
