A Manteca man with a history of felony convictions has been sentenced to 12 years in prison after being found in possession of ammunition, according to a release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office. Mario Gonzalez, 43, received his sentence on Tuesday from U.S. District Judge William B. Shubb following his charge as a felon in possession of ammunition.
The incident leading to Gonzalez’s arrest unfolded on Dec. 17, 2019, when Gonzalez himself reported a misconduct involving the improper towing of his truck. However, officers, before even to arrive on scene, learned of an outstanding felony warrant for Gonzalez’s arrest. Upon their arrival and Gonzalez’s subsequent arrest, a loaded revolver with additional ammunition was discovered in a toolbox in his truck. Due to multiple previous convictions including domestic violence and firearm possession as a felon, Gonzalez is legally barred from owning firearms and ammunition.
