SJ day care owner accused of intoxication in infant death now charged with second-degree murder

A Manteca home-based day care owner who was out on bail after being accused in the death of a 5-month-old boy while intoxicated was arrested and charged with second-degree murder during an arraignment hearing Thursday.

Roxanne Helus was at the Manteca courtroom for her first court appearance since her Oct. 22 arrest in connection with the death of Christian Olvera.

The Manteca Police Department responded at 1:25 p.m. Oct. 22 to Cherished Years Daycare in the 2300 block of Merlin Lane for a report of a baby who was not breathing. An adult was performing CPR on the child when officers arrived…
