In the 1990s, land in southwestern San Joaquin County began a slow and deliberate transformation. Three decades later, the change culminated in the incorporation of Mountain House, California’s 483rd city.
“It was always thought that Mountain House would become a city. It was just a matter of when,” says Jodi Almassy, deputy city manager of the community of 25,000. “The residents ultimately voted to incorporate in 2024.”
California’s newest city is desirable for many reasons, with location being front and center. Mountain House lies 30 miles southwest of Stockton and just west of Tracy, two of San Joaquin County’s largest cities. And Sacramento, San Francisco and San Jose are all less than a 90-minute drive…
