STOCKTON, Calif — A deadly overnight house fire in Stockton killed one man and left his family displaced as investigators work to determine what caused the blaze.
Fire crews were called at 12:51 a.m. Saturday to a home at Sunny and Kingsley roads in Stockton, according to the Montezuma Fire Protection District. Firefighters arrived to find the home fully involved in flames.
Inside the home were multiple family members, including at least four adults and two children, officials said. One adult was killed as he helped the rest of the family get out safely.
Family members identified the victim as Jose Villalta. They said Villalta woke in the middle of the night to find the fire already spreading through the home and took quick action to get everyone outside. Once outside, the family realized a boy was still inside…
