Discovery Bay Jet Ski Flip Turns Deadly Off Marina Ramp

A day on the Delta turned tragic yesterday when a jet ski flipped near the Discovery Bay Marina launch ramp, killing one person, according to county deputies. Three people were thrown into the water. Two adults managed to swim to a nearby dock, while a third vanished beneath the surface and was later recovered by responders after an extended underwater search. Contra Costa County sheriff’s dive teams spent about two hours searching before bringing the victim to shore, and Marine Patrol deputies have opened a fatal vessel accident investigation.

Rescue and Investigation

Delta Station and Marine Patrol deputies rushed to the Discovery Bay Marina launch ramp on Sunday, joined by the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District and the U.S. Coast Guard, according to the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office. The sheriff’s post states that the jet ski, carrying three people, flipped in the water. Two adults made it to a dock on their own. The third person disappeared underwater before responders located and recovered the individual.
