Suspect Arrested for 2019 Murder of Missing 16-Year-Old Victoria Marquina of Sutter Creek

March 20, 2026 – Amador County District Attorneys Office officials report that on Tuesday, the Amador County

District Attorney’s Office announced a major development in the 2019 disappearance of Victoria Marquina, age 16, of Sutter Creek. Joshua Martinez has been indicted and charged by a grand jury with the murder of Victoria, in addition to other sexual offenses. Martinez, age 21 at the time of the disappearance, was in an unlawful dating relationship with Victoria. She was last seen in San Joaquin County.

Over the course of a lengthy investigation spearheaded by San Joaquin County District Attorney’s Office Investigator Eduardo Rodriguez, supported by the Amador County District Attorney and the Amador County Sheriff’s Office, evidence developed indicating that Victoria became the victim of a homicide outside of Amador County.

In February of this year, the Amador County District Attorney’s Office authorized prosecution in San Joaquin County pursuant to Penal Code sections 781 and 784.7(a), based upon jurisdictional law.
