East Syracuse, N.Y. — New Hartford right fielder Alessandra D’Apice lifted the ball over the leaping second baseman’s glove, raised her arms up high and received a bear hug from first base coach Brian LaLonde that lifted her high in the air.
In a matter of seconds, the whole Spartans team joined in, mobbing her in the infield. LaLonde intercepted New Hartford’s incredulous head coach, Melissa Gehringer, at the circle and lifted her in another bear hug.
Despite never leading and facing a seven-run deficit in the fifth inning, New Hartford stole the Class A softball title from Chittenango in a 12-11 walkoff win Friday evening in one of the craziest games in section championship history…
