Gov. Kathy Hochul is encouraging New Yorkers to take part in events across the state commemorating America’s 250th birthday, with more than 200 activities, exhibitions and historical programs planned throughout 2026.
The celebrations range from tall ships in New York Harbor and Revolutionary War reenactments to museum exhibits highlighting Black, Indigenous and other perspectives on American history.
“The 250th birthday of our country has given us the opportunity to unite with our neighbors and communities and celebrate,” Hochul said in a statement.
Major events planned across New York
Among the featured events:
- Sail4th 250 (New York City): July 3-9, featuring one of the largest gatherings of tall ships ever assembled in New York Harbor, along with fireworks, Fleet Week programming and festivals.
- FourLeaf Air Show (Long Island): July 5-6 at Jones Beach State Park, headlined by the U.S. Navy Blue Angels.
- Old Fort Niagara celebrations (Western New York): Living-history demonstrations, military salutes and Niagara County’s official America 250 celebration Aug. 1-2.
- Webster Arboretum celebration (Finger Lakes): June 24, featuring a reading of the Declaration of Independence, historical games and family activities.
- Binghamton Philharmonic America250 concert (Southern Tier): Free July 4 performance featuring patriotic classics.
- Fort Stanwix Independence Day celebration (Mohawk Valley): Revolutionary War-era demonstrations, cannon salutes and historical activities.
- Empire State Plaza fireworks (Capital Region): July 4 festivities featuring music, food and fireworks.
- Fort Ticonderoga programs (North Country): Revolutionary War reenactments and living-history events throughout the year.
- Rev Fest 250 (Mid-Hudson): A large-scale Battle of White Plains reenactment scheduled for Oct. 24-25.
