Syracuse University’s financial contributions to the city of Syracuse are once again up for negotiation as the two work toward a new services agreement.
In 2011, SU began making annual voluntary payments to the city to help cover the municipal costs that come from a large tax-exempt school. It started at $500,000 a year in 2011 and grew to $2.2 million a year in 2022, with SU also agreeing to help maintain Thornden Park.
